Join us! The Maple Valley Creative Arts Council proudly presents the Twelfth Annual Arts Festival hosted at the newly renovated Lake Wilderness Lodge. This popular event coincides with the yearly community celebration, Maple Valley Days and is the must see highlight of the weekend.  Arts Festival will include a live performance area (poetry, music, dance, etc.), indoor gallery space for display of visual arts, artists' demonstrations and hands on art activities for children.  Check out the photo pages of last year's Arts Festival award winning artwork.

JURIED ART SHOW

The visual art component is a competitive event and is designed to showcase exceptional talent and offer artwork for sale to the public.  MVCAC is now accepting submissions into the Juried Art show. CLICK HERE to register online. Submissions are due prior to June 4, 2010. Up to $1,000 is available in purchase awards in the juried exhibit as well as many awards in the form of People's Choice and various local business donations (cash and gift certificates). Also, artists accepted in to the juried show will receive complimentary admission to the Artists Reception Gala. Guests and general public admission will be $10 at the door. Maple Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra to perform at this mingle and meet - sneak peek!

 

MEET THE JURIST - LINDA DENNY

Linda has a BA in Art Education from the University of Washington.  She has been a advocate for the arts in the local community for many years.  Linda has served on the board of the Renton Annual Art show from 1976 to 1989.  During that time, Linda was Design Chair, Judging Chair and overall Show Chair.  She also supported the City of Kent's Canterbury Faire Juried Art Show as 'SmallWorks' Chair.  Linda has served on the Kent Arts Commission since 1996, with a majority of her expertise spent on the Visual Arts Committee - as a panel member in choosing art works to enhance the environment of the Kent community.

DEMONSTRATIONS -

Ongoing throughout the weekend:

Folk art at its best, the Covington Quilt Members Guild will once again demonstrate their craft and sell $1 raffle tickets for the beautiful quilt you will see first hand on display. Click here to view this year's Quilt Raffle!

 

Welding Sculpture Demonstration - MVCAC member, Greg Bartol has shown at many MV Arts Festivals and this is a first! A metal welding demonstration highlighting Greg's unique talent will be at Arts Festival ongoing throughout the weekend.


Past Arts Festival participants, the
Washington Flute Circle and Flute Quest will be on hand to demonstrate flute making as well as performance demonstrations of Native American style music. WFC will also be on hand throughout Arts Festival weekend.
 

Saturday, 1-3pm: Calligraphy Demonstrations! Calligrapher Sally Penley will be at Arts Fest to demonstrate her hand. Sally recently showed at the Creative Arts Center displaying letter forms and intricate Chinese characters. Experience this live demonstration and take home a calligraphy sample.
